Clos des Papes is one of the most consistently respected Châteauneuf-du-Pape estates, run by Paul Avril and son Vincent a family domaine with vineyards across all four soil types of the appellation: galets roulés (pebbled plateau), sandy terraces, clay-limestone slopes, and sandy-clay sectors. The estate produces both Rouge (Grenache-dominant with Mourvèdre and Syrah) and Blanc (Clairette, Roussanne, Grenache Blanc, Bourboulenc) the blanc being one of the most sought-after white Châteauneufs.
