Compagnie des Indes
Bottled in France; rum sourced globally · Est. 2014
Compagnie des Indes is a French rum négociant founded by Florent Beuchet, selecting single-cask Caribbean and world rums from individual distilleries and bottling them at cask strength with no added colouring or sweetening. The model is deliberately analogous to independent Scotch malt whisky bottling: each release identifies the distillery of origin (Foursquare, Long Pond, MHOBA, Caroni, Worthy Park, and others), the vintage, the cask type, the age, and the outturn. Distillery provenance and cask specificity are the defining characteristics of the range.
With 29 expressions in the Bouchon catalogue, Compagnie des Indes is the largest single rum presence in the range and the primary vehicle for the rum-as-spirits-category narrative analogous to how an independent bottler broadens a Scotch range without requiring every distillery to be separately stocked. The range spans multiple distillery origins, production styles (pot still, column still, blended), and age profiles, making it suitable as the backbone of a rum tasting flight programme. Programmes building a premium rum-by-the-glass offering should anchor in Compagnie des Indes as the discovery range.
