Domaine Charvin

Rhône

Domaine Charvin (Gérard Charvin) is a Châteauneuf-du-Pape estate farming old-vine Grenache on the sandy plateau of the appellation's Orange sector producing Châteauneuf in the traditional, unfined, unfiltered style, with whole-bunch fermentation and extended maceration. Gérard Charvin's approach is classically old-fashioned: maximum respect for old vines (some dating to the 1920s), minimal intervention in the cellar, long ageing in foudres. The result is Châteauneuf with garrigue-herb character, old-vine concentration, and genuine ageing potential.

Domaine Charvin is consistently one of the better-value prestige addresses in Châteauneuf-du-Pape: respected by critics and collectors for its authenticity and consistency, yet less premiumly priced than the appellation's most famous names. For programmes wanting to offer a traditional, old-vine Châteauneuf with cellar credentials and provenance depth, Charvin provides the most direct expression of old-vine Grenache from sandy Châteauneuf soils in the Bouchon catalogue.
