Luneau-Papin

Loire

Domaine Luneau-Papin is a Muscadet producer in Le Landreau, a commune within the Muscadet Sèvre et Maine appellation (Loire-Atlantique) producing Melon de Bourgogne (the sole permitted white grape of Muscadet) from the schist and gneiss soils of the Clisson sub-zone. Luneau-Papin is known for single-terroir Muscadet expressions with extended sur-lie ageing: the Muscadet Sèvre et Maine sur Lie designation requires minimum six months on the lees; Luneau-Papin's more ambitious cuvées age for three to ten years on the lees, producing wines of exceptional depth and salinity.

Extended-ageing Muscadet sur Lie is one of the Loire's most underappreciated fine wine tiers: at three to ten years on the lees, Melon de Bourgogne develops yeast-autolysis complexity (toasty, brioche character) layered over the grape's natural saline-mineral and citrus base. The result challenges simple perceptions of Muscadet as a light, straightforward wine. For programmes wanting to demonstrate that Muscadet can produce fine wine of genuine complexity, Luneau-Papin's longer-aged expressions provide the most direct evidence in the Bouchon catalogue.
