Velenosi

Marche · Est. 1984

Velenosi (Angela Velenosi) is a winery based in Ascoli Piceno, southern Marche producing from the Piceno zone, which covers both the Rosso Piceno DOC (Montepulciano and Sangiovese blend) and the opportunity to use Pecorino, an indigenous white variety that has become one of Marche's most interesting rediscoveries. Velenosi produces premium Rosso Piceno Superiore (including the 'Roggio del Filare' aged expression), Pecorino, Passerina, and a Lacrima di Morro d'Alba (another distinctive Marche indigenous red variety).

Pecorino from the Marche/Abruzzo border is one of Italy's most interesting indigenous white rediscoveries: high acid, textural, stone-fruit-dominant, not to be confused with the cheese of the same name. Velenosi is one of the quality reference producers for both Pecorino and southern Marche red wine. For programmes wanting to represent the Marche beyond Verdicchio (northern Marche), Velenosi's Piceno range provides the southern Marche perspective with indigenous variety variety and accessible price positioning.
