Château Barthes

Provence

Château Barthes is a Bandol estate in the Bandol AOC (Var, Provence), producing both the appellation's structured red (minimum 50% Mourvèdre, minimum 18 months oak ageing) and the dry white (Clairette, Bourboulenc, Marsanne). Bandol Rouge is one of Provence's most serious and age-worthy red wines: the Mourvèdre requirement and mandatory extended ageing produce reds with tannin structure, dark fruit, and a 1020 year ageing trajectory far beyond most Provençal red wine. Château Barthes produces from vineyards within the historic Bandol zone.

For programmes building a Provence section beyond rosé, Bandol Rouge provides the argument for Provençal red wine seriousness: Mourvèdre-dominant, firmly structured, needing time, analogous in weight and tannin to northern Rhône Syrah or Corbières Mourvèdre. The Bandol Blanc from Clairette and Bourboulenc provides the dry white counterpart, a weight-structured Provençal white suited to rich fish and shellfish. Château Barthes covers both colours within the Bouchon Bandol range.
