Domaine Jean-Luc Mader is based in Hunawihr (Haut-Rhin), Alsace, farming two of the appellation's most prestigious Grand Cru vineyards: Rosacker (limestone and dolomite, associated above all with Riesling) and Schoenenbourg (sandy marl, particularly suited to Riesling and Gewurztraminer). Hunawihr is a small commune on the ridge between Riquewihr and Ribeauvillé the historic heart of Alsace Grand Cru production and the Mader family has farmed these sites for several generations.

The Mader range at Bouchon covers varietal Alsace wines Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris through to the Grand Cru Rosacker and Schoenenbourg expressions. Grand Cru Riesling from Rosacker is the most age-worthy and complex expression in the range: high mineral tension, slow development, benchmark for Alsace terroir-driven Riesling. For programmes building a serious Alsace selection, Mader provides estate Grand Cru access at a scale appropriate for by-the-glass inclusion of the entry-level varietal range.
