Fernet-Branca

Lombardy · Est. 1845

Fernet-Branca is an Italian amaro produced by Fratelli Branca in Milan since 1845 one of the most widely distributed bitter herbal liqueurs in the world and the defining reference point for the 'fernet' style of intensely bitter digestif. The recipe uses 27 herbs and spices from four continents, including aloe, myrrh, rhubarb, chamomile, saffron, and gentian, macerated in neutral spirit and aged in oak barrels for a minimum of twelve months. The result is one of the most bitter, complex, and polarising spirits in the digestif category.

Fernet-Branca holds a unique position in the global on-premise market: simultaneously a traditional Italian digestif, a bartender's favourite (the industry's unofficial 'handshake drink'), and a cult object in the Argentine market where consumption per capita is among the highest in the world. For programmes building a digestif and amaro section, Fernet-Branca is the essential category anchor the benchmark against which all other fernet styles are measured, and a reliable by-the-glass digestif for guests who know the category.
