Marchesi de' Frescobaldi is one of the great Florentine noble wine families seven centuries of continuous wine production in Tuscany, with estates spanning Chianti Rufina (Nipozzano, Remole), Pomino, Mormoreto, Castiglioni, and the Montalcino estate Castelgiocondo (Brunello di Montalcino). The Frescobaldi family were bankers and patrons to the Medicis; the wine estates are the longest-running commercial thread in Tuscan fine wine history. The Frescobaldi range at Bouchon covers the full quality ladder from the entry-level Remole and Castiglioni through Nipozzano Chianti Rufina Riserva, Mormoreto (Cabernet Sauvignon-based IGT), and the prestige Montesodi single-vineyard Chianti Rufina. The Chianti Rufina DOCG north-east of Florence, higher altitude than Chianti Classico, longer growing season produces Sangiovese with more acidity, tighter structure, and longer ageing potential than the more prominent Classico zone. Frescobaldi is the principal reference for Chianti Rufina in the Bouchon catalogue.
