R. López de Heredia Viña Tondonia is one of the most historically significant and traditionally oriented Rioja houses founded in Haro in 1877, the oldest winery still in the Haro 'barrio de la estación' (station quarter). The winery has changed almost nothing in its production approach since the 19th century: fermentation in open oak vats, ageing in very old American oak barrels and casks for periods that dwarf modern conventions (Reserva aged 6+ years, Gran Reserva 10+ years), and then further bottle ageing before release. The Viña Tondonia estate wines Blanco and Tinto and the Bosconia and Cubillo expressions are among the most distinctive wines in Spain.

López de Heredia represents Rioja's deepest traditional roots: wines released at 1020+ years of age, deliberately oxidative from extended barrel time, tasting more like old Burgundy or aged Rioja from the 1950s than modern fruity Tempranillo. The Viña Tondonia Blanco Gran Reserva from Viura, Garnacha Blanca, and Malvasía, aged a decade in barrel and bottle is one of the world's most distinctive aged white wines.
