Muga

Rioja · Est. 1932

Bodegas Muga is one of the most traditionally oriented Rioja producers in Haro (Rioja Alta), founded in 1932 one of the last remaining Rioja houses to ferment in oak vats, use egg whites for fining, and conduct all blending and bottling by hand. The winery operates its own cooperage on site. Muga wines span from the accessible Rosado and Rioja Reserva through the flagship Prado Enea Gran Reserva aged minimum three years in American oak, two in bottle and Torre Muga (barrel-fermented in French oak, a modern departure from the house's traditional American oak base).

Prado Enea Gran Reserva is one of Spain's great reference wines for the traditional Rioja style: long American oak ageing, vanilla and coconut character integrated with tertiary fruit and leather complexity, requiring 1020 years to reach its peak. For programmes building a serious Spanish red section, Muga covers both the accessible everyday Rioja tier (Reserva) and the prestige aged Gran Reserva narrative traditional production, Haro location, family-owned integrity.
