Podere Rocche dei Manzoni

Piedmont · Est. 1974

Podere Rocche dei Manzoni is a Barolo estate in Monforte d'Alba (Langhe, Piemonte) one of the five major Barolo communes, known for the structured, tannic, long-lived Barolo expressions produced from the Bussia, Castelletto, and Santo Stefano di Perno vineyards. The estate was established by Valentino Migliorini in the 1970s and became known for innovative ageing techniques during Barolo's modernist-traditionalist debates of the 1980s and 90s, including the early use of barrique for some expressions.

The Manzoni range covers Barolo cru expressions from Monforte d'Alba alongside a Metodo Classico sparkling wine ('Valentino Brut Zero') produced from Pinot Nero and Chardonnay an unusual combination within the Piedmontese production tradition. For programmes building a prestige Barolo section, Monforte d'Alba producers provide a different Nebbiolo expression from the more prominent Serralunga and La Morra communes: more structured and mineral in youth, requiring longer ageing, ultimately among the longest-lived Barolo expressions.
