Bubb + Pooley is a Tasmanian wine collaboration between Justin Bubb and Anna Pooley — partners professionally and personally — established with first releases from the 2021 vintage. Justin Bubb runs the Babo label, focused on Italian varietals adapted to Tasmania, and lends a hand at Pooley Wines (Anna's family estate). Anna Pooley is the third-generation winemaker at Pooley. The Bubb + Pooley label is the project where the two work together independent of either family operation.
The first vintages used purchased fruit from the Coal River Valley and Tasmania's East Coast. From 2022, fruit comes from three Coal River Valley sites: Brinktop Vineyard in Sorell, the Pressing Matters vineyard in Richmond, and the Bubb + Pooley vineyard on White Kangaroo Road (the WKR Vineyard, which the pair own outright). The winemaking is deliberately hands-off: concrete fermentation rather than oak (to avoid the wood character overwriting the site signature), minimal intervention, and decisions oriented around environmental impact reduction.
The current line is short and Pinot-focused: a standard Bubb + Pooley Pinot Noir blended across the three Coal River Valley sites, plus the single-vineyard WKR Vineyard Pinot Noir. White expressions include a Chardonnay and a Riesling. The wines pair conceptually with the Pooley Wines line — both Coal River Valley, both cool-climate, both Pinot-led — but Bubb + Pooley operates as the experimental, lower-volume sibling to the larger family estate.
