On the palate
Château Sociando-Mallet Haut-Médoc 2013 — a Cabernet Sauvignon-led Bordeaux from the Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne estate, drinking well a decade on from a cool, challenging vintage.
Made at Château Sociando-Mallet in Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne (Haut-Médoc, Bordeaux), an unclassified estate widely regarded as producing wines at a level comparable to many classed growths. The Günz gravel and clay-limestone soils overlooking the Gironde estuary give the estate its trademark structure, freshness and elegance. Cabernet Sauvignon-led blend with Merlot and Cabernet Franc; fermented in stainless steel and aged in French oak.
Blackcurrant, cedar, tobacco leaf, dried herb and soft pencil-shavings | Medium-bodied Haut-Médoc with fine, integrated tannin and the trademark estuarine freshness | Long, savoury, fruit-and-cedar close
Roast lamb, entrecôte, mushroom-led dishes and aged hard cheeses; a cellar-list Haut-Médoc now in its drinking window.
