From one of the original plantings on the estate, established in 1985 on the gently sheltered north-east facing slopes overlooking the Coal River near Campania. Crafted from hand-picked fruit with a strategic inclusion of whole bunches during fermentation (10% whole bunch) to build complexity, structure and aromatic lift. Aged 10 months in French oak (30% new). Bright ruby in colour with aromas of dark cherry, wild strawberry and red plum cut with hints of brown spice, amaro herbs, rocky facets, undergrowth and roast game meats. The palate is lithe, supple yet powerful — a wine of impressive concentration and elegance, balanced by fine tannins and a mineral thread that carries through to a long, graceful finish. 97+ points, Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion.
