"James Gosling sailed for Virginia in 1806 with a cargo of British wines and spirits but was shipwrecked off Bermuda; he set up shop in Hamilton instead. The Gosling family has run the business in Bermuda continuously since, making it the oldest surviving business on the island. The Black Seal blend was developed for the British Royal Navy and became the standard dark rum on Bermuda.
