Angelo Negro

Piedmont · Est. 1670

Angelo Negro is a winery in Monteu Roero (Cuneo province, Piemonte), located in the Roero DOC on the left (north) bank of the Tanaro river directly across from the Langhe and its Barolo/Barbaresco vineyards. The Roero DOCG uses the same Nebbiolo grape as Barolo and Barbaresco but on sandy, tufa-rich soils that produce a more aromatic, lighter-bodied and earlier-developing expression of the variety compared to the Langhe's compact clay-limestone. Angelo Negro produces Roero Nebbiolo, Barbera d'Alba, Dolcetto d'Alba, and the white Arneis from Roero's signature white grape.

For programmes wanting to extend their Piemontese wine section beyond Barolo and Barbaresco pricing, the Roero DOC from Angelo Negro provides Nebbiolo with the same grape and the same river valley at a fundamentally different price point sandier soils, earlier-drinking character, more accessible structure. Arneis from Roero is the Piemontese white grape benchmark: dry, floral, peach-stone character that provides the Loire-Chenin-equivalent versatility in an Italian context.
