Apsley Gorge

Tasmania

Apsley Gorge Vineyard is a small estate on the east coast of Tasmania, near Bicheno producing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from vines planted in the early 1990s. The vineyard takes its name from the Apsley Gorge conservation area on the Freycinet Peninsula. The cool maritime climate of Tasmania's east coast with its low summer temperatures, high UV intensity, and well-drained dolerite-influenced soils creates ideal conditions for slow-ripening Burgundian varieties.

As a small-production Tasmanian estate, Apsley Gorge occupies the artisan end of the Australian fine wine market single-vineyard Pinot Noir and Chardonnay with genuine cool-climate tension and site character. For wine programmes building a serious Tasmanian section alongside producers like Moorilla, Pooley, and Domaine A, Apsley Gorge adds east-coast vineyard provenance as a point of contrast with the Coal River Valley and Derwent Valley estates that dominate the island's premium tier.
