Description

Apsley Gorge Chardonnay — the Burgundy-trained Tasmanian Chardonnay from Brian Franklin at the East Coast vineyard.

Made by Brian Franklin at Apsley Gorge near Bicheno (East Coast Tasmania), planted 1988; Burgundy-trained winemaking honed alongside Philippe Charlopin in Gevrey-Chambertin. Wild-yeast French-oak ferment, partial malolactic; Burgundy-influenced Chardonnay vinification on the small Apsley Gorge Chardonnay holding.

Nose: White peach, lemon-curd, hazelnut, integrated French-oak spice. Palate: Stone-fruit weight balanced by cool Tasmanian acidity, fine French-oak lift. Finish: Very long, citrus-and-oak balance.

Pairing: Cellar-list Chardonnay; pairs with crustacean, roast chicken with truffle, hard cheeses; lay down 5–10 years.
