Argiolas

Sardinia (Serdiana, near Cagliari) · Est. 1938

Argiolas is the leading wine estate in Sardinia, based in Serdiana near Cagliari in the south of the island, and the producer most responsible for elevating Sardinian wine's international reputation from the 1990s onward. The estate is built around Sardinia's indigenous varieties Cannonau (Grenache's Sardinian expression), Carignano, Monica, Vermentino, and Nasco and their most celebrated wine, Turriga, is a blend dominated by old-vine Cannonau with Carignano, Bovale Sardo, and Malvasia Nera, aged in French oak barrels.

Turriga was one of the first Sardinian wines to achieve international critical recognition as a serious age-worthy Italian red, demonstrating that Cannonau's high-sugar-content grapes from Sardinia's sun-drenched hinterland could produce structured, complex wines competitive with mainland Italian DOCGs. The Vermentino di Sardegna (Is Argiolas and the premium Costo Russi) provides the Sardinian white counterpart. For programmes wanting to represent the islands in their Italian wine section Sicily (covered by Planeta and Pellegrino) and Sardinia Argiolas is the primary Sardinian reference in the Bouchon catalogue.
