Baumard

Loire · Est. 1634

Domaine des Baumard is a prestigious Loire estate based at Rochefort-sur-Loire, producing Savennières (bone-dry Chenin Blanc on schist and shale) and Coteaux du Layon (sweet botrytis-affected Chenin). Jean Baumard was a pioneer of Loire wine quality; Florent Baumard continues the estate. The flagship Clos du Papillon Savennières is among the most structurally demanding and long-lived dry white wines in the Loire.

Savennières demonstrates Chenin Blanc's capacity for extreme structural complexity in a dry format: mineral, austere in youth, with a multi-decade ageing trajectory comparable to premier cru white Burgundy. For programmes building a Loire Chenin Blanc narrative across dry and sweet styles, Baumard provides both expressions from one estate provenance.
