Paul Giraud
Cognac — Grande Champagne (Bouteville, Charente) · Est. 1976 (brand); 1635 (family on the property)
Paul Giraud is a family estate in Bouteville, Grande Champagne one of the premier communes in the appellation, located in the heart of the chalk plateau that defines the finest Grande Champagne terroir. The estate grows its own Ugni Blanc on approximately 30 hectares of chalk, double-distils in Charentais copper pot stills on property, and ages in their own cellars at Bouteville. The vertically integrated model vine, distillation, and ageing all on one estate is deliberately maintained against the norm of large negociant houses who blend across growers.
The Paul Giraud range runs from Reserve through VSOP, Napoleon, XO, and Vieille Reserve, with occasional vintage releases. Bouteville's chalk soils produce spirit with exceptional structure for long ageing: at XO and above, Giraud cognac develops the characteristic Grande Champagne complexity rancio, candied citrus, deep dried-fruit concentration. For programmes building a cognac list around estate identity rather than house blends, Paul Giraud is the reference point for authenticated single-terroir Grande Champagne.
