Port Phillip Estate
Victoria · Est. 1987
Port Phillip Estate is a Mornington Peninsula estate based at Red Hill South the elevated, cooler southern sector of the Peninsula that produces some of the region's most structured and age-worthy Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The estate was founded in 1987; since 2000 it has been owned by Giorgio Gjergja, who has invested significantly in both vineyard and winery facilities, making it one of the more prominently built operations on the Peninsula.
The Port Phillip Estate range spans from the Quartier tier (entry, earlier-drinking) through Estate and the flagship Salasso (Pinot Noir and Chardonnay). The Red Hill South terroir volcanic soils, high elevation relative to the Peninsula floor, cooler temperatures produces Pinot Noir with darker fruit character and more structure than the lighter, more perfumed style of warmer Peninsula sites. For programmes building a Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir selection, Port Phillip provides the Red Hill South reference at multiple quality tiers.
