Roger Groult
Normandy — Pays d'Auge (St-Cyr-du-Ronceray) · Est. 1860
Roger Groult is a family estate in Saint-Cyr-du-Ronceray, Pays d'Auge one of the more traditional calvados houses in the appellation, known for long-aged expressions and older vintage releases. The Pays d'Auge double-distillation requirement (copper pot stills, not continuous column) ensures that Groult's calvados retains more congeners and more raw orchard character than column-distilled Calvados AOC produced outside the Pays d'Auge zone.
The Roger Groult range is particularly strong at the older age grades: the 8-year, 12-year, and Tres Vieux represent the heart of the range, with single-vintage releases for the most age-intensive expressions. At 12 years and above, Groult calvados develops progressive oxidative complexity deep apple-derived dried-fruit notes, integrated oak analogous in character to a well-cellared armagnac. For serious digestif service or programmes building an aged calvados narrative, Groult is the specialist reference point alongside the broader Drouin range.
