Torrevento

Puglia

Torrevento is a Puglia wine cooperative based in Corato (Bari province, northern Puglia), producing from indigenous Pugliese varieties particularly Nero di Troia (also called Uva di Troia), the region's signature red grape, grown on the limestone plateau of the Murge hills. Nero di Troia produces deeply coloured, tannic, spice-rich reds with natural extractive density from Puglia's warm continental climate and calcareous soils. Torrevento produces both the standard varietal range and the prestige E`Arte single-vineyard expressions.

Nero di Troia is one of southern Italy's most distinctive indigenous varieties: less internationally known than Primitivo or Negroamaro but producing wines of serious structure and ageing potential that reward comparison with Aglianico at its best. For programmes building a southern Italian red range that goes beyond the standard Primitivo/Negroamaro/Malbec trio, Torrevento's Nero di Troia provides the northern Puglia indigenous variety perspective.
