Description
Alejandro Montepulciano — an Italian-variety red in the Alex Russell range, drawing on Murray Darling fruit.
Made by Alex Russell under the Alejandro label (Russell & Suitor), drawing on Murray Darling and Riverland fruit; the range focuses on alternative varieties suited to Australia's inland regions. Montepulciano handled in the Abruzzo tradition with French-oak maturation; one of the few Australian Montepulciano bottlings.
Nose: Dark cherry, blackberry, soft tobacco, faint herbal lift. Palate: Round dark-fruit weight with savoury Italian-variety tannin. Finish: Long, savoury, food-leaning.
Pairing: Slow-cooked beef ragù, ossobuco, pizza, hard sheep's-milk cheeses; a working Italian-variety expression for cellar lists.
