Description
Woodlands Watson Family Chardonnay — the family-name middle tier in the house range, drawing on estate Wilyabrup fruit.
Made by the Watson family at Woodlands (planted 1973), one of the original five Margaret River vineyards in Wilyabrup. Two estate sites: the Caves Road home block and Brook Vineyard on Puzey Road (acquired 2007). Wild-yeast French-oak ferment, partial malolactic, ageing in a mixture of tank and barrel; the Watson Family tier is the working trade Chardonnay of the house.
Nose: White peach, citrus curd, soft French-oak spice, faint hazelnut. Palate: Stone-fruit weight balanced by Margaret River acidity, fine French-oak lift. Finish: Long, citrus-oak balance.
Pairing: Roast chicken, lobster and crab, soft cheeses; a working Margaret River Chardonnay for cellar lists.
