Description
Woodlands Wilyabrup Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot — the Caves Road home-block single-site Bordeaux blend, the upper tier of the house's Cabernet program.
Made by the Watson family at Woodlands (planted 1973), one of the original five Margaret River vineyards in Wilyabrup. Two estate sites: the Caves Road home block and Brook Vineyard on Puzey Road (acquired 2007). Cabernet Sauvignon-led blend with Merlot, French-oak matured; single-site Wilyabrup home-block fruit.
Nose: Concentrated blackcurrant, dark cherry, cedar, soft mint, faint pencil-shavings. Palate: Dense Cabernet structure with Merlot mid-palate weight, fine-line tannin. Finish: Very long, structured, fruit-and-oak balance.
Pairing: Cellar-list bottle; pairs with slow-cooked beef, lamb, hard cheeses; lay down 8–15 years.
