Rhum J.M.
Martinique · Est. 1845
Rhum J.M. is an AOC Martinique Rhum Agricole producer from the Macouba estate in the northern tip of Martinique the highest-altitude and most isolated rum estate on the island, growing sugar cane on volcanic slopes at the foot of Mont Pelée. The Macouba terroir is distinctive within Martinique: the volcanic soil and elevation produce cane with higher sugar concentration and more complex mineral character than the coastal lowland estates. J.M. operates from one of the oldest continuously running distilleries on the island.
The J.M. range covers the full agricole spectrum: blanc (unaged, pure cane juice distillate), VSOP and XO aged in Limousin oak, and vintage releases at higher proof. The Martinique AOC France's only agricultural rum appellation, requiring fresh-pressed cane juice (vesou), column distillation, and minimum 3-year ageing for the aged tier gives every J.M. expression a guaranteed production standard. For programmes building a structured rum service around origin and style differentiation, the J.M. blanc vs aged vertical demonstrates the transformation of agricole rum under wood in the most direct way possible.
