Description
Woodlands Watson Family Whole Bunch Shiraz — the carbonic-leaning Shiraz expression in the house range, distinct from the standard Cabernet-led Margaret River program.
Made by the Watson family at Woodlands (planted 1973), one of the original five Margaret River vineyards in Wilyabrup. Two estate sites: the Caves Road home block and Brook Vineyard on Puzey Road (acquired 2007). Whole-bunch fermentation across the Shiraz fruit, French-oak maturation; the whole-bunch handling lifts the savoury-and-perfumed side of the wine over warmer Shiraz fruit weight.
Nose: Red and dark cherry, white pepper, soft herbal lift. Palate: Lifted fruit weight with fine-line tannin and savoury structure. Finish: Long, perfumed, savoury.
Pairing: Roast duck, lamb, mushroom-led dishes; a Northern-Rhône-leaning Shiraz expression for cellar lists.
