Chugoku Jozo
Hiroshima · Est. 1918
Chugoku Jozo is a Japanese distillery based in Hiroshima, producing Togouchi whisky a blended Japanese whisky that matures in a disused 261-metre railway tunnel through a mountain in the Hiroshima prefecture. The tunnel provides naturally stable temperature and humidity conditions year-round, which the distillery uses as a passive maturation chamber. The Togouchi range draws on grain whisky from Scotland and Canada, blended with Japanese spirit and matured in the Hiroshima tunnel environment.
The Togouchi range covers 9-year, 12-year, and barrel-select expressions, alongside a no-age-statement Classic. As a blended Japanese whisky with documented maturation-site character rather than a purely domestic grain-to-bottle operation, Togouchi occupies a distinct position in the Bouchon Japanese whisky range between the single-malt focused houses (Sakurao, Sasanokawa) and the major Japanese blended brands. For on-premise programmes introducing Japanese whisky at accessible aged-expression price points, the Togouchi 9-year and 12-year provide the age-stated blended-Japanese tier.
