Pooley
Tasmania (Coal River Valley) · Est. 1985
Pooley Wines is a family estate in the Coal River Valley (Richmond, Tasmania) one of the warmest and driest sub-regions in Tasmania, producing some of the island's most structured and age-worthy wines. The Pooley family has farmed the Coal River Valley since the 1800s; the current wine programme was established from the 1980s, with the estate now centred on Riesling, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir from the valley's distinctive free-draining soils.
The Pooley range covers a substantial portfolio by Tasmanian standards: Riesling (including the exceptional Cooinda Vale single-vineyard), Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and the rare Pinot Noir Methode Traditionnelle sparkling. For programmes building a Tasmanian wine list or featuring cool-climate Australian whites and Pinot Noir, Pooley is among the handful of Tasmanian producers with both the range depth and the critical record to anchor the section.
