French Whisky
France produces more whisky than most markets recognise — the country has over 100 active whisky distilleries and exports significant volume, largely driven by early craft pioneers and a strong domestic culture of single malt.
Bouchon's French whisky listing is dominated by Michel Couvreur (Bouze-lès-Beaune, Burgundy) — 18 SKUs covering the full range from the Blossoming blend entry to single-cask Vintage releases. Couvreur is classified as French whisky because maturation (the legally defining step under Scotch rules) happens in France, even though the spirit origin is Scottish malt. Christian Drouin covers the Calvados crossover: his Whisky Finesse 42% is a Scotch malt finished in his own Calvados casks, a direct expression of the Pays d'Auge terroir meeting the Scottish distilling tradition. Domaine des Hautes Glaces (Isère) rounds out the list as an estate-grown, rye-forward mountain whisky distilled from grain grown at altitude in the Chartreuse foothills.
