On the palate

A heavy rum from the closed Caroni distillery in Trinidad, distilled in 1998 from Trinidad molasses and bottled by Velier in 2015 at 55% under its Extra Strong label, after 17 years in bourbon casks in the tropics. More than 70% of the spirit was lost to evaporation. La Maison du Whisky, which imports it into France, finds a lighter petrol character than in the 12 and 15-year-old releases, with honey and floral notes on the palate.
